QUALIFICATIONS SUMMARY:

Richard Sem, CPP has over 30 years of security leadership experience.  He was Director of Security and Crisis Management for Waste Management for eleven years, and was Vice President of Pinkerton Security/Securitas responsible for eighteen offices in eleven states. He has been board certified as a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) since 1979, was the President of the International Security Management Association (ISMA - an association of senior security executives of Fortune 500 firms), and has had several articles published on security.

As Director of Security and Crisis Management for Waste Management, Dick’s responsibilities included the security of high-risk hazardous, nuclear waste, and waste-to-energy operations, and water and power generation plants during a time of significant activist attention.  He developed and managed an innovative and leading international system of physical and information security, an ethics and environmental HelpLine, crisis and emergency planning, workplace violence prevention and response, executive protection, awareness training, guard outsourcing, and related policies and procedures.  He directly oversaw investigations and responses to threats and losses, planning for and response to demonstrations and strikes, surveys of sites and operations, and secure transportation of high value materials. He was responsible for the security of over 600 sites internationally.

As a security consultant, Dick provides support to manufacturers, utilities, chemical plants, ports, office buildings, hospitals, insurance companies and distribution centers in the U.S., Europe and the Caribbean.  His services include surveys and assessments, workplace violence prevention and response, awareness training, security officer program development, creation of plans, policies and procedures, etc.  He has recently conducted 35 team-based security vulnerability assessments (SVA’s) of chemical and industrial facilities and ports.  He also served as Expert Witness in over 30

security-related lawsuits.

    Security consulting practice
    Provide security assessments and surveys, development of policies and procedures, security awareness training, workplace violence prevention and response programs and training, support for security outsourcing, hotline development, guard program development and enhancement, the Virtual Security Manager program, etc.  Services in North America, Europe and Caribbean provided to manufacturers, chemical plants, food and beverage producers, ports, distribution facilities, office buildings, hospitals, etc. Litigation support and expert witness services for plaintiff and defense involving security-related negligence, wrongful death or injury, foreseeability, standards, premises liability, etc.  Also support cases involving the adequacy of security-related employment/screening practices, security officer/guard program management, policies and procedures, training, etc.  Support for cases involving retail, apartment complexes, hotels, office buildings, hospitals, industrial facilities, stadiums and entertainment venues, etc.

    Responsible for all aspects of managing the Security Officer Division.
  • Pinkerton, Inc. (now Securitas), Montvale, NJ
    Responsible for leadership of Northeast Region composed of eleven states, eighteen offices and 4,000 employees. Led company with over $ 11 Million in new sales in 1999.  Managed team that landed third largest client in company history in early 2000.  Established Northeastern Team based upon company values and rebuilt company’s reputation in Northeast. Significantly improved client and employee retention.   Placed strong operations and sales staff in key positions and markets. 
  • District Manager, Raleigh, NC
    Managed business operations in most of North Carolina including staff, P&L, sales & marketing, customer service, strategic planning, human resources, etc.   Transitioned operation from unprofitable to successful in one year.  “District Manager of the Quarter,” Third Quarter, 1997.  Southeastern Security Solutions Core Team Leader. 
  • Waste Management, Inc., Oak Brook, IL
    Developed and managed security, emergency and crisis management , and HelpLine (hotline) programs.  Implemented workplace violence prevention and response program, directed investigations, surveyed and audited operations, directed security office program management and outsourcing, provided threat management, planned and managed security during strikes and demonstrations, provided security awareness training, etc. Supported trucking terminals, landfills, waste-to-energy incinerators, office buildings, water treatment and electric generating plants, hazardous and nuclear waste facilities, recycling centers, foreign operations, etc.
  • Sem Security Management, Inc., Brookfield, WI
    Provided security consulting services to manufacturers, utilities, office buildings, and hospitals.   Clients included GE Medical Systems, Wisconsin Bell, Parker Pen, Appleton Paper, St. Luke’s Hospital, Dairyland Power, Wisconsin Electric Power, Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company, and Waste Management.
  • Wisconsin Industrial Police, Inc. (now a unit of Pinkerton/Securitas)Milwaukee, WI
    Managed all corporate functions including all staff, sales & marketing, client support, planning, budgets, insurance, training and employee relations. This company grew to be the largest security firm in Wisconsin by 1980. Started as a part-time security officer in 1969 while in college.
